Heart Check

It carries beauty and pain. It holds loss and gain. It records the joys of every special moment and recites the devastation of every tragedy. Your heart is such a powerful part of who you are. It is vital to pray that your heart would stay clear of earthy debris. Often times it seems to collect and keep record of the bad more oft that the good in this life. Heart checks are a powerful act that you can perform daily. Often times, when I am feeling anxious or sometimes angry, I have allowed a thought to enter my mind that is not God’s thoughts. Over some time, if I allow this contrary thought to remain, it then tries to plant a seed in my heart. This seed can be anger or offense, worry or doubt, bitterness or resentment, just to name a few. And friend, you must not allow these seeds to take root in your heart. A heart of repentance is one of the most powerful heart postures you can take. It takes letting your pride down. It may mean never hearing an apology and forgiving anyway. It could mean you need to surrender your desire for control once more to the Lord. But, a heart that says “Jesus, help me. I can’t do this on my own”, is beautiful in the sight of the Lord. Allow him to clean out any debris that has found it’s way into the caverns of your heart. As you bring light to these dark areas, by confession, he has a way of bringing in his light and comfort in a way that only he can. There is no shame in your struggle. In a fallen world you will have emotions and thoughts that are opposite to his heart. But, he is so good to come in and clean out the debris, if we will be honest and allow him to do so.

Practical Tip- Are there areas of your heart that need the Father’s touch? If you’re human, there probably are, and that’s ok. Your need for a Savior is a beautiful thing. Openly share the offenses and the pains. Communicate your worries and fears to him. He’s not afraid of your short comings. He just wants to come in and trade them for his peace.

Remember- “Jesus help me, I can’t do this on my own” is one of the most powerful prayers you can ever pray.
